Is Buying An Email List An Awful Idea?

Justin Premick at Aweber points out that it isn’t so obvious to the new email marketers.

I’ve seen those “blast email to 1 million people for $10″ ad around, but was never quite sure how that worked.  Not that I am really interested in finding out, but they do pay me a daily visit to my Spam Folder.

As an alternative solution, some Internet Marketers successfully use co-registration services.

I know at least three successful Internet Marketers who use services such as Listjoe.com or Listdotcom.com

The way these services work is you send emails to group of people who agreed to open your email for credit.  As people gain greater credit, their email blasts go out to more people when it’s their turn to send email.

One friend of mine uses the paid version of Listjoe.com.  When he joined, he paid something like $197.  That upgrade allows him to mail to 3000 recipients every 3 days.  He does it 10 times a month and potentially get opened by 30,000.  He adds 20 or so new subscribers every time he uses this.  But he also said lots of unsubscribes also occur.

Interesting approach to list building.
